Die Erfindung betrifft einen Nitrosyl-Ionen leitenden Werkstoff aus NO+-β"-Al2O3, der erfindungsgemäß einen Gehalt an MeAlO2 von unter 2,4 Molprozent aufweist, wobei Me mindestens ein einwertiges Metall aus Lithium, Natrium, Kalium, Rubidium, Silber oder Tantal ist. Ein Verfahren zur Herstellung des erfindungsgemäßen Werkstoffs wird ebenfalls beschrieben.

A nitrosyl ion conductive material comprises a coarsely crystalline nitrosyl ion-containing beta double prime alumina of low aluminate content. A nitrosyl ion conductive material of NO+-β"-Al2O3, which contains less than 2.4 mol% MeAlO2 where Me = one or more monovalent metals selected from Li, Na, K, Rb, Ag and Ta, has a mean crystallite diameter of greater than 40 mu as measured perpendicular to the NO+-β"-Al2O3 crystal c-axis. Independent claims are also included for the following: (i) production of the above material by determining the MeAlO2 content of a Me-β-Al2O3 powder of <µm40 mean crystallite diameter, adding γ-Al2O3 powder for compensation of the MeAlO2, firing the powder mixture and ion exchanging the Me ions with nitrosyl ions; and (ii) production of a nitrosyl ion conductive molding, foil or layer of the above material.
