Abstract in another language
The development of new techniques for nucleic acid analysis allows insights into complex microbial communities. The right choice of analysis tools depends on whether the composition of a microbial community should be deduced from the metagenome or whether the functional activity should be inferred from the metatranscriptome. A recently developed microarray design allows the simultaneous examination of composition and selected functions of a community, and is particularly suitable in ecosystem research.
