A new and comprehensive slag model is presented in order to assess slag analysis data. MgO saturation figures based on complex thermochemical calculations are easy to interpret and make common over-simplifying projections and restrictions obsolete. These diagrams allow the visualization of current control of MgO, SiO2 and FeO and give hints for improved use of slag formers, slag conditioners, carbon and oxygen injection. Case studies are presented.
