Adapter sleeves serve for mounting rolling element bearings with tapered bores on cylindrical shafts by forming an interference fit. This article presents detailed rules for calculating the permissible axial load capacity of such a fit. The calculation approach is based on the strength of materials and provides analytical equations. Parameter studies by means of finite element calculations confirm the results of the analytical formulas.
