Abstract
This entry examines two varieties of English spoken in the Lucayan Archipelago, that is, Bahamian English and Turks Island English, in each case considering sociohistorical and sociolinguistic issues in addition to a range of defining phonetic and morphosyntactic features. Nevertheless, it has to be noted that this linguistically highly diverse area is characterized by tremendous amounts of regional, ethnic, and social variation, making the definition and linguistic description of clear-cut regional or national varieties virtually impossible. This is discussed against the backdrop of prior research on English in The Bahamas and, more importantly, research that is still to be conducted.
