Abstract in another language

Coating of sensitive or irregular substrates with solvent-free and pinhole-free thin films of poly(1,4-xylylene)s (PPXs) can be performed efficiently by chemical vapour deposition (CVD). The performance of the films of PPXs can be controlled by the reaction parameters. Many PPXs prepared by CVD exhibit excellent solvent resistance and have high melting points. Current applications are mostly in the field of anticorrosive or insulating coatings in microelectronics and for conservational coatings. PPXs with halogeno substituents in the alpha-position can be prepared by CVD and converted by annealing to visible-light-emitting poly(1,4-phenylene vinylene) which can be used for the fabrication of light-emitting diodes.
