Abstract in another language
We have applied the bond-valence method to calculate the valencies of the vanadium atoms in the low-temperature superstructure of α'-NaV 2 O 5 . The modulated ladders are found to comprise V 4+ and V 5+ cations in a zigzag type of charge order. The non-modulated ladders comprise a single type of vanadium atom in the mixed-valence state V 4.5 + .
