Abstract in another language
Abstract in another language
Over the last decades, authenticity became a buzzword in performance analysis and theatre critics tend to use the term as opposed to theatrical concepts such as mise en scene, character and mimetic representation. Off course, the term's semantic history would not allow for this kind of opposion. Yet, when performer seemingly act out 'their personality', as e.g. in Rimini Protokoll's theatre of experts, the lack of scholarly knowledge becomes apparent. This article - part of scholarly book on dramaturgy - aims at setting things right in differentiating the production of authenticity through artificialty from the effect by the same name.
