Abstract in another language

Unedited Seeks to correlate Kagel's poetic of serial tonality and Franz Liszt's idea of poetic thought. Liszt's concept is intermedial, as opposed to Wagner's aesthetic of the Gesamtkunstwerk. Staring with Liszt's notion of the epopée as that of a 'narration of internal processes', the attempt is made to illuminate Kagel's particular compositional method in his serial-tonal works, for example the thematic work, the programmatic aspect, specific musical topoi, and the way Kagel plays with the listener's expectations.
