Der Beitrag untersucht die Konkurrenz um humanitäre Hilfe in Konfliktsituationen während der Hungersnot in Äthiopien 1984–1985. Im Spannungsfeld von Kaltem Krieg, autoritärer äthiopi-scher Herrschaft und Bürgerkrieg prangerte Ärzte ohne Grenzen den Missbrauch von Hilfsleis-tungen durch das äthiopische Regime öffentlich an und wurde des Landes verwiesen. Der Fall wirft Fragen über die Rolle von Nichtregierungsorganisationen in militärischen Konfliktzonen, moralische Verantwortung und humanitäres Handeln in politisch-militärischen Kontexten auf.

Abstract in another language

The article examines the contested positions of humanitarian aid in conflict situations during the famine in Ethiopia in 1984–1985 as a case study. In the context of the Cold War, authoritar-ian rule, and civil war, Doctors Without Borders publicly denounced the misuse of aid by the Ethiopian regime and was therefore expelled from the country. The example raises questions about the role of NGOs in military conflict zones, moral responsibility, and the politics of aid in political-military contexts.
