Abstract

N-Heterocyclic compounds play a key role in chemistry and the life sciences and their (sustainable) synthesis is of great general interest. We report here on the synthesis of 3,4-dihydrobenzo4,5imidazo1,2–cpyrimidin-1(2H)-ones and −thiones. Our reaction is a consecutive three-component reaction using simple and readily available starting materials, such as benzene-1,2-diamines, 3-aminopropan-1-ols and 1,1́-carbonyldiimidazole or 1,1́-thiocarbonyldiimidazole. The reaction is mediated by a well-defined 3d-metal catalyst that is a manganese pincer complex and hydrogen is liberated during the reaction. All benzoimidazopyrimidinone and −thione examples synthesised haven’t been reported in literature yet.
