Abstract
The Anti-Homosexuality Act (2014) of Uganda prohibited sexual relations between persons of the same sex, prevented the promotion of homosexuality and punished citizens who fail to report a person suspected of being gay to the authorities. Scholarship on sexuality politics in Uganda has been limited to suggesting how rights-based approaches were used to advocate for the LGBTQ community, usually within the global health frameworks. This chapter focuses instead on the ways that global networks of funding and activism supported anti-homosexuality political organizing in Uganda. It examines U.S. American financial support and a transnational conservative Christian network’s link with Ugandan politicians and religious figures advocating for the the Bill’s eventual passage in 2013.
