SeOF4 has been investigated by low temperature i.r. (Ar, Ne matrix and solid film at 77 K) and Raman (solid film at 77 K) spectroscopy. The analysis of the spectra is consistent with C2v symmetry of the molecule. The SeO bond can be considered as a double bond with a force constant of 8 · 2 · 102N/m. This value is smaller than in SeOF2 while the reverse is found for the analogous sulfur compounds. An estimated molecular structure is given.
