Abstract in another language

In former times designers computed the parts by themselves. Based on the results of computation they could directly change their design. The actual software development (CAD- and FEA-programs) has led to a stronger separation between design and computation and thus two types of engineers have developed: the design engineer and the computational engineer. Computation is more and more important for design because of the abilities of modern software. Topology optimisation for instance has a direct influence on the design of parts. There are not only the designer's ideas.
The main objective of this paper is to give the designer an adequate access to the modern computational tools, especially FEA. We want to put the embodiment design back in the designer's hands. Therefore the paper's overall topic was the integration of 3D-CAD and Finite Element Analysis from the designer's point of view.
In this context, at first the preparation of CAD-models for Finite Element Analysis is of interest. Part of this is the simplification of the geometry, the utilisation of symmetries and the transition from a three-dimensional to a two-dimensional problem. Secondly, questions concerning the execution of Finite Element Analyses are significant. Among these are the kind of meshing, the element types used, to put up loads and constraints, the use of different solvers and the fundamental method (p- or h-approach).
This paper deals with one of these aspects: the selection of the Finite Elements considering the type (for example tetrahedrons or hexahedrons), the degree of the polynom (for example Tet4 or Tet10-Elements) and the number.
