Abstract in another language
This paper examines the attitude of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) towards the implementation of methods for processes and production system optimization. Holistic production systems (HPSs) set optimization as target, but are insufficiently applied in SMEs. Ten experts were interviewed and provided insights into their experiences and barriers towards implementation. According to the interview findings, HPSs are generally implemented in parallel to daily business. Therefore, employees as key success factors require instruction and education, as well as change management. Accurate instructions, decentralization of the decision-making process and visibility of achievements are essential in terms of motivating employees. Similar results of former studies imply that HPS implementation is independent of different financial, economic and geographical situations.
