Abstract
Two phosphosilicides PtSi3P2and PtSi2P2have been prepared in a tin flux and their crystal structures determined from single crystal X-ray diffraction data. PtSi3P2 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1,a=4.840(1)Å, b=5.482(1)Å, c=8.052(1)Å, α=91.57(1)°, β=93.52(1)°, γ=108.14(1)°, Z=2. PtSi2P2 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21, a=6.025(1)Å, b=9.468(1)Å, c=11.913(1 Å, and β=102.91(1)°,Z=8. Final R factors are R=0.049 for the former and R=0.040 for the latter. Pt atoms are octahedrally coordinated by P and Si atoms. P and Si atoms are tetrahedrally surrounded by Pt, Si, and P atoms. In PtSi₃P₂ Pt octahedra, connected via edge-sharing, form Pt₂(Si/P)₁₀ pairs separated from each other, while PtSi₂P₂ exhibits clusters of four edge-sharing octahedra with bonding between clusters via common corners. The behavior of the electrical resistivity of PtSi₃P₂ is metallic but with very high values.
