Abstract in another language

Computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulations of the gas flow in anode baking furnaces were performed to determine possible strategies for increasing the temperature homogeneity in the furnace pits. Simulations of the heat transfer in refractory flue walls also demonstrated that energy savings of up to 12 kWh/t(baked anode) could be obtained with the new RESISTAL brick grades developed for anode baking furnaces, which contain from 8% to 20% SiC. These novel grades have a higher bulk density, higher thermal conductivity (improved heat transfer), lower apparent porosity (increased resistance against alkaline infiltration or carbon bursting), higher compressive strength, and a higher maximum operation temperature optimized for the specific application.
