Abstract in another language

INTRODUCTION:
Within the context of talent screening campaigns in Germany, Elementary school children are recommended for a suited club sport (based on individual motor test profiles) and a prognosis of their future success is made. From the perspective of competitive sports, the question arises whether the recommended children reach a higher performance level later on. Therefore, this study will examine the prognostic validity of the early talent recommendations in relation to individual performance levels reached at the age of Under 15 in four different competitive sports.
METHODS:
The Fulda Movement Check is a longitudinal talent identification campaign that uses six physical fitness (PF) and three motor competence (MC) tests to recommend a range of sports to 8 years old children and to determine their suitability for specific competitive sports. The testing took place between 2011 and 2015 and comprised approximately 10,000 participants. In youth competitions of the Under 15 age group, N = 963 children could be identified as players in club sport competitions by means of a print media analysis. Thus, the early PF and MC profile could be compared with their future competitive performance in the four sports soccer (n = 316), table tennis (n = 225), tennis (n = 166) and track and field (n = 256) to clarify the prognostic validity of the talent prediction. Binary logistic regression, variance analysis, discriminant analysis and neural network (multilayer perceptron) analysis were used to discriminate between national, regional, and local performance level club athletes.
RESULTS:
The maximum of correct recommendations (sensitivity & specificity) varied between 74.8% (table tennis) and 90.6% (track & field) correct hits, depending on the sports discipline and the type of analysis. In general, the prognostic validity was medium to high, so that the benefit of the talent orientation campaign Fulda Movement Check was underlined.
