Der Sommer 2016 hat europäische Geschichte geschrieben. Mit dem Brexit verlässt erstmals ein Mitglied die EU, und weitere Austritte werden wahrscheinlicher. Mit den Entwicklungen in der Türkei rücken ihr EU-Beitritt sowie eine Osterweiterung der EU in weite Ferne. In Frankreich illustriert das Scheitern der Arbeitsmarktreform, wie reformunfähig zentrale Mitgliedstaaten der EU geworden sind.
