Abstract in another language

The volume "Performing the Matrix. Mediating Cultural Performances" presents a collection of articles on politics of visibility, media networking, telepresence and liveness. These topics are considered to be understood as performances of the matrix. Metaphorically, 'the matrix' describes the idea to think of cultural performances as always already mediatized. Rather than to think in terms of media specificy and its related aesthetics this volumes sets out to rethink performance against the backdrop of a mediatized (control) culture. It gives new insight on the transformation of resistance to hegemony through citizens artists, radical media art and contigencies of a paradoxical logic which unsettles the media from within.
