Abstract in another language
This study is concerned with the still fairly unexplored collection of cantatas by the Imperial court Vice-Kapellmeister and composer Antonio Caldara, which he edicated to the elector prince Frederick Augustus, that is the next Elector of Saxony and Polish King Frederick Augustus II (also known as Augustus III the Strong, † 1763). The author is initially concerned with the historical circumstances surrounding the emerge of the work, thereby uncovering a range of unknown issues. This serves to contribute, among other things, to the question of the Viennese copiers of musical pieces. The cantatas can be dated to the year 1719. The study includes careful textual and musical analyses, which are carried out thanks to recent methods in musicological research. A comparison of the character of Caldara’s cantatas from the Roman and Viennese period is also included, which amount to almost two hundred preserved works in all. The wide contextualization, which also consists of the use of part of one of Caldara’s antatas in a film by the Czech director Alice Nellis, is an important aspect.
