Abstract in another language
Modern cars are equipped with many mechatronic systems, which are to reduce the fuel consumption and to enhance the passenger comfort. The characterization of the input/output behavior of these systems is an important step both during the development of new components and during the remanufacturing of used components. We report on a case study involving actual road tests of mechatronic systems in automobiles. In particular, we compared the suitability of radio links based on UMTS, GSM/GPRS, and WLAN for the present purposes. The contribution discusses the respective advantages and limitations of the various wireless standards. The in-situ characterization of mechatronic systems is shown to yield supplemental information to that obtained by simple test-bench measurements.
