This work presents a simulation model to evaluate the viability of crowd logistics concepts in context of short food supply chains (SFSC). Many local agrifood supply chains, especially those of smallholder farmers, lack efficient and sustainable means for physical distribution. By employing a hybrid approach, based on agent-based and discrete event simulation modelling, a decision support system is developed to help decision makers to estimate the effects of crowd logistics on farmers’ market reach, vehicle kilometres travelled, and food quality in SFSC. Preliminary results show that crowd logistics can increase market reach while only slightly increasing vehicle kilometres travelled, highlighting that crowd logistics can be a viable option for last-mile distribution in SFSC.
