Abstract

Na capital moçambicana, Maputo, o fenômeno da agricultura urbana encontra-se num ponto crítico. Constituído por uma longa história, satisfaz a demanda da provisão da alimentação e cria meios de subsistência. Entretanto, o crescimento urbano acelerado e os impactos das mudanças climáticas comprometem os espaços agrícolas de forma crescente. O acesso à informação e o compartilhamento de conhecimento são fundamentais para os agricultores conseguirem enfrentar estes desafios. Considerando que o espaço urbano é o produto de inter-relações, este estudo tem o propósito de investigar as relações entrelaçadas aos agricultores que promovem o desenvolvimento sustentável. Um estudo de caso qualitativo com ênfase nas associações de camponeses no distrito urbano de KaMavota foi realizado. Os resultados indicam que, por um lado, as relações horizontais entre os agricultores permitem o compartilhamento e o acesso às informações relevantes e criam capital social. Por outro lado, as relações verticais entre os agricultores e o governo promovem a troca de conhecimentos e competências que se referem sobretudo à extensão agrícola e atribuição de direitos de terra. Face à emergência de demanda de locais que concentram produções agrícolas, fortalecemos o papel central que a agricultura urbana desempenha para tornar o desenvolvimento mais sustentável.

In the Mozambican capital Maputo, the phenomenon of urban agriculture arrived at a critical point. It builds on a long history of meeting the demand for local food provision and sustaining livelihoods. Accelerated urban growth and the impacts of climate change, however, are increasingly compromising agricultural areas. Access to information and the sharing of knowledge are crucial for farmers tomeet these challenges. Considering that urban space is the product of interrelations, this study aims to investigate the intertwined relationships of farmers that promote sustainable development. A qualitative case study with a focus on farmers' associations in the urban district KaMavota was conducted. The results indicate that, on the one hand, horizontal relationships among farmers enable the sharing and access to relevant information while creating social capital. On the other hand, vertical relations between farmers and the government promote the exchange of knowledge and entitlements referring, above all, to agricultural extension and the allocation of land use titles. Considering the emerging demand for places that concentrate agricultural production, we strengthen the central role that urban agriculture plays in making development more sustainable.
