Die postkoloniale Kritik radikalisiert bereits früher erhobene Vorwürfe der Nord-Süd-Ungleichheit, indem sie nicht nur ökonomische, gesellschaftliche und politische Polarisierungen beklagt, sondern die Soziologie selbst zum Gegenstand der Kritik macht. Wie kann auf den damit verbundenen Vorwurf einer »epistemischen Gewalt« reagiert werden? Notwendig sind zunächst eine Provinzialisierung soziologischer Befunde und eine erweiterte empirische Basis über Westeuropa und Nordamerika hinaus. Damit werden auch scheinbar universell geltende Kategorien wie Pro-Kopf-Einkommen oder Konzepte wie Klasse infrage gestellt. Zugleich gilt es, die strukturellen Ungleichheiten im Wissenschaftssystem zwischen dem Globalen Norden und dem Globalen Süden abzubauen und eine Kooperation auf Augenhöhe zu ermöglichen. Dies erfordert unter anderem eine konsequentere internationale Ausrichtung der deutschen Soziologie sowie die Bereitschaft, auch grundsätzliche epistemologische Fragen neu zu diskutieren.

Postcolonial criticism radicalizes earlier accusations of North-South inequality by not only criticizing economic, social and political polarization, but also making sociology itself the object of scrutiny. How can we respond to the associated accusation of »epistemic violence«? First, a provincialization of sociological findings and an expanded empirical basis beyond Western Europe and North America are necessary. This also calls into question seemingly universal categories such as per capita income or concepts such as class. At the same time, the structural inequalities in the science system between the Global North and the Global South must be reduced. Importantly, academic cooperation on an equal footing must be made possible. This requires, among other things, a more consistent international orientation of German sociology as well as the willingness to discuss fundamental epistemological questions anew.
