Abstract
In the past, cationic poly(2-oxazolines) (POx) have emerged as a promising class of polymers for biomedical applications. Cationic POx are intensely researched as antimicrobials as well as drug or gene delivery vectors. This review aims to summarize synthetic strategies for the design of cationic, amine-derived POx. It showcases previous approaches to synthesize chain-end and side chain functional POx and discusses obstacles that can arise during different synthetic routes. Finally, it will present examples of the application of cationic POx in the life science field. This review showcases cationic POx as a promising material with high potential for future applications and underlines future directions of this polymer class.
