Abstract
Human-Robot Collaboration (HRC) systems are commonly evaluated in laboratory studies, which are resource-intensive and often involve a limited number of participants. Online crowdsourcing offers a scalable alternative, but requires sufficiently immersive simulations to ensure valid results. This work investigates how user control schemes and visualization styles affect immersion in a simulation-based HRC study. We evaluated agency, ownership, usability, and workload ($$N = 24$$N=24), comparing three visualization styles (Cursor, Hand, Arm) and two control schemes (Raycast and 3D-Control). Results show that ownership is primarily driven by the control scheme rather than by the visualization style. The Raycast control scheme consistently achieved higher agency and ownership with lower workload than the 3D-Control. These findings suggest that visualization style may not significantly affect immersion, whereas an intuitive control scheme is essential for desktop-based HRC simulations.
