Abstract

Despite the inherent rigidity of glass materials, previous studies demonstrated the successful application of glass-based separators in LIBs. To meet the requirements of modern battery production, a colloidal water-based system of platelet-shaped glass particles and binder is deposited directly onto the electrode active material layer. There are several coating techniques available for this purpose. In this study, the two most scalable methods, doctor-blading and spray-coating, are compared in terms of resulting morphology, mechanical stability and electrochemical impact.
