Abstract
The German implementation of the Directive 2011/13/EU came into effect on the 1st April 2016. The new Act leaves arbitration outside its scope of application and concentrates on the regulation of conciliation. In doing so, it respects the current panorama of consumer ADR in Germany. The objective of the present contribution is to evaluate to what extent the new Act can contribute to consolidate ADR as a tool to increase the efficacy of consumer law in Germany. For this purpose, it explores the main points of the German Act and highlights the key developments after its entry into force.
