Abstract in another language

The knowledge of mobility and vagility of insect species is important for ecologicaland biogeographical research and nature conservation. Aquatic insects disperse or change thewaters normally by active flight. Based on own and literature data the flight ability of adephaganwater beetles with distribution in Germany is analysed and compared with their respective habitatpreferences. Stable habitats (e. g. fens and running waters) show significantly more species unableto fly than unstable habitats where mobile species dominate. The index of the relative area of thehind wings to determine flightlessness is reviewed and the existing system for the Colymbetinae,Agabinae and Dytiscinae is enlarged for the smaller-sized subfamily Hydroporinae. The relativeareas of the hind wings of the Hydroporinae differ from the remaining Dytiscidae.
