Abstract in another language
This empirical paper surveys pupils' attitudinal and behavioural preference covering environmental world views towards conservation and nature utilisation as well as environmental behaviour. A total of 723 pupils (11 to 16 year old) from rural areas of the German-speaking Switzerland answered a paper-and-pencil questionnaire, previously established in Bavaria (and confirmed in various European regions), and rated items on a multiple-choice basis of a Likert-scale.The study has two objectives: firstly, to confirm the factor structure for the Swiss sample and, within the factor structure previously extracted using the same instrument in Bavaria, to identify items with common validity for both samples; and, to apply a confirmatory factor analysis based on this reduced item set to the combined samples of both regions. Secondly, following construct validation procedures, to compare the mean within-region factor scores. Differences between the regions in the behavioural variable only were revealed.
