This paper describes an empirical evaluation of the perceptions of pupils environmental world-views towards conservation and nature utilisation as well as their behaviour towards the environment. It surveys attitudinal and behavioural preferences by focusing on factor-analytic structures. A total of 725 Danish pupils aged between 11 and 16 who were from rural areas responded to a paper-and-pencil questionnaire, written in Danish, and they rated the items on the multiple-choice basis of a Likert-scale. The data from the Bavarian sample were provided by a previous study which used the same objective test. The purpose of the study was, first, to evaluate a factor structure valid for the Danish sample and, within the factor structure previously extracted from the same instrument in Bavaria, to identify those items common to both samples; secondly, to apply a factor analysis based on this reduced item set for the combined samples of both countries. The correlation values of these separate analyses matched those of the common analysis closely. Following construct-validation procedures, the mean within-region factor values were compared; this revealed substantial between-country differences.
