Abstract in another language

The in situ activity of a cell is determined by which physiological traits are expressed under in situ conditions. Thus, the ecological impact of acetogens is determined by the in situ manifestation of their physiological potentials. Since their physiological capabilities are very diverse, it must be anticipated that the in situ activities of acetogens are likewise diverse. Indeed, because acetogens constitute a very phylogenetically diverse bacteriological group, it should be anticipated that they can inhabit, and have impact on, diverse habitats. The intent of this chapter is to outline recent work that highlights what is known about the realities of acetogens in both test tubes and ecosystems.
