Abstract in another language
The Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) is a well suited converter topology for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission. The converter performance is often discussed for a MMC consisting of only one cell type, such as full bridge or half bridge cells. This paper investigates the combined use of these basic cell types in order to achieve an improved MMC performance. Thereby the possible advantages and limiting factors of this hybrid MMC topology are demonstrated. Finally a possible modulation method for the different cell types is presented.
