In this paper a half bridge with Press-Pack diode (PP diode) as lower and only freewheeling diode is investigated. Switching losses are measured with a low inductive half bridge cell and overall losses in MMC operation are calculated with a temperature dependent calculation on basis of one submodule (SM). The forward recovery voltage of the PP diode is taken into consideration to not exceed the reverse blocking voltage of the IGBT.
