Abstract in another language
The accurate determination of the tempera- ture field inside of spent fuel assembly storage and transport casks, also named as dual-pur- pose casks (DPC), is crucial for safety. However, the simulation-based determination is very time-consuming when, for example, various casks with different loadings and possible po- sitions have to be modelled. Within the scope of the current project, we have extended the approximate two-dimensional approach of Thermal Gap Conditions (TGC), which now allows the assessment of various three-di- mensional finite element based DCP models. We have implemented the extended approach in the simulation tool Z88ENSI. Since, the ex- isting code had to be refactored to a large extend, we have almost fully automated the workflow which increases the usability for the user. We were also able to implement the in- itial and handling position, besides the exist- ing storage and transportation position of the DCPs. Verification with commercial software
shows sufficiently accurate results. Validation is still pending and planned to be completed within beginning of the year 2021.
