Abstract in another language

Improving performance on-site is often seen as the most challenging, compared to the other parts of the industrialised housebuilding (IHB) order fulfilment process. Thus, performance improvements in IHB were achieved mainly through advances in prefabrication and design. Since a large proportion of the value creation still takes place on-site, it makes sense to systematically achieve continuous improvements in the on-site production process as well. Consequently, this study aims to analyse the methods used in continuous improvement (CI) programs to identify and analyse improvement potential at the construction site. A multiple case study within the IHB sector in Central Europe is conducted. The analysis showed that companies mainly use experience-based methods for identifying and analysing potential for improvement in quality criteria. However, best practice approaches were identified that allow the inclusion of quantitative measurements to uncover and harness tacit knowledge from specific site teams and improvement potential in a more systematic way. A combination of performance measurement and experience-based methods is used to assess productivity criteria. The indicators obtained, however, are only applied in one case for the systematic discover of team specific knowledge. The identified weaknesses and best practice cases provides a source for the further development of CI programs.
