Abstract in another language
‘And stay away from phones! Phones destroy marriages!’
I could scarcely see her between the scarved heads of the women seated around me, but the woman speaking was projecting her voice loudly enough that everyone in the lelwapa, or courtyard, could hear. With her heavy, blue-checked blanket pinned round her shoulders, she was seated near the centre of the crowd, immediately behind the carefully concealed figure of the bride – to whom her remonstrations on the management of modern technology were directed.
