Reducing the transformer impedance for higher efficiency results also in a higher surge short-circuit
current for railway traction applications. This paper addresses the problem of an I2t-value higher than
the nominal rating of SiC MOSFET body diodes. Circuit options for protecting the intact components
after a single failure are presented and examined.
