Abstract in another language

Self-assembled colloidal materials have gained significant interest in the field of heat management in recent years. Concurrent with a surge in nanostructured materials, colloidal ensembles provide a versatile pathway to study thermal transport on a small length scale and reveal the governing structure–property relationships. This chapter aims at giving an overview of recent contributions of nano- and mesostructured materials, which are accessible via colloidal self-assembly strategies. First, we outline the basics of thermal transport in hard, soft, and composite materials. Subsequently, essential characterization techniques to measure the thermal transport of self-assembled colloidal objects are briefly discussed. Then, we present the various and intriguing contributions and considerable potential of colloidal materials to control the flow of heat on the nanoscale. We close our chapter by outlining various emerging applications, where colloidal structures become active components for advanced heat management.
