Abstract
Information Systems (IS) research, especially Green IS, leverages digital technologies to advance efforts in sustainability and decarbonization. As decarbonization must be significantly accelerated to effectively combat climate change, to aid corresponding efforts as well as open up new possibilities to support decarbonization recent literature investigates the application of new and emerging technologies for data sharing, e.g., in the context of data spaces and privacy-preserving data sharing. However, recent research has paid ever more attention to the fact that developed systems often suffer from a lack of data sharing, resulting in incomplete information and unrealized potential for decarbonization. To address this issue, we conduct a structured literature review to identify and cluster the current body of knowledge and resulting research gaps. Moreover, we aim at proposing a research agenda on the value of data sharing for accelerating decarbonization. Our preliminary results indicate that data sharing in the context of decarbonization has been well researched regarding the optimization of businesses and monitoring applications. However, the value of data-sharing for end-consumers, improved predictions for all stakeholders, and the carbon-adaptive steering of businesses display promising venues that future research should address to design solutions for accelerating decarbonization.
