This study addresses imbalances in the prefab housebuilding supply chain (SC), exacerbated by uncoordinated stock management and complex multi-stage processes. The paper aims to demonstrate how value stream mapping (VSM) can improve alignment and efficiency in the supply chain. A single case study was conducted, involving four suppliers and a prefabrication plant. Data was collected and VMS was performed. The application of VMS identified imbalances and developed solutions, reducing cycle time by around 20% for the selected prefab SC. Consequently, the paper provides guidance on analysing complex systems like a prefab SC to reduce imbalances and resource waste.
