Wolf-Dieter Ernst erzählt die Geschichte der Schauspielschulen als Theater- und Bildungsreform. Mit Fallstudien zu Ernst Possart, Louise Dumont, Elsie Fogerty und Leopold Jessner verdeutlicht er erstmals die Bandbreite des Schauspieltrainings und beleuchtet das Spannungsverhältnis zwischen den zunehmend institutionell und pädagogisch vermittelten Vorschriften und deren affektiver Überschreitung – eine detaillierte Analyse, die die Institutions- und Bildungsgeschichte künstlerischer Berufe um neue Perspektiven erweitert.

Between 1870 and 1930, acting training became institutionalized and its own pedagogical approaches emerged. Wolf-Dieter Ernst tells the story of drama schools as theatre and educational reform. With case studies on Ernst Possart, Louise Dumont, Elsie Fogerty and Leopold Jessner, he illustrates the range of acting training for the first time and sheds light on the tension between the increasingly institutionally and pedagogically taught regulations and their affective transgression – a detailed analysis that expands the institutional and educational history of artistic professions with new perspectives.
