Abstract

During the course of the past project phase, the possibility of an automated execution of performance tests according to experiments done by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) was successfully added to Z88ENSI. This allows quick and easy evaluation of the thermal behavior of a dual-purpose cask (DPC) in six different configurations. These consist of simulations in vertical and horizontal cask orientation, each done with helium or nitrogen as fill gas inside the gaps of the DPC as well as a vacuum instead of a fill gas.
Furthermore, an additional DPC model is being added to Z88ENSI. This is however more complex than previous DPC models due to certain geometry features of the newly required model. This complexity leads to additional research regarding the optimization of the DPC implementation process for future models.
