Abstract in another language

This study examines perceptions of German residents prior to UEFA Euro 2024. Drawing on a survey conducted about six months before the tournament, it analyzes perceived economic, social, and environmental impacts, determinants of spectator interest, and drivers of event support. Most respondents expect predominantly negative impacts across all three dimensions. Nevertheless, spectator interest is high, driven mainly by eustress, self-esteem, and entertainment motives.
Event support primarily depends on interest in the sporting competition and its entertainment value. Consequently, UEFA Euro 2024 is evaluated primarily through its core sporting product rather than its broader societal impacts.
