In the present contribution, a mechanistic model for gas-sensitive p-type conducting SrTi1-xFexO3-δ sensor films is discussed. Starting from the mechanistic model of n-type semiconductors, i.e., sensors of the Taguchi type, a novel microscopic mechanism was proposed. Rather than limiting electronic interactions with reducing gases to space charge layers near the sensor surface, the material bulk is assumed to participate in gas sensing.
