Abstract in another language

An enzymatic sensor system detecting the analyte formaldehyde straight from the gas phase is under investigation. In contrast to existing systems, it enables the quantification of the analyte without prior accumulation and thus can be used as an online system to monitor directly the formaldehyde concentration in ambient air. The amperometric sensor depends on an 3-electrode configuration, where the enzyme, formaldehyde dehydrogenase, catalyzes the oxidation of formaldehyde in special buffer solution. In these studies, influences of buffer composition, especially of pH and phosphate concentration, on the stability and sensitivity of the sensor signal are discussed.
