Abstract
Increasingly stringent environmental requirements where the limits are mostly given as hourly mean values demand reliable low analyte detecting gas sensors. The continuous operation of a conductometric gas dosimeter enables the detection of NOx concentrations down to 20 ppb by selective accumulation. During NOx sorption the conductivity of the sensitive material changes irreversibly. In absence of NOx, the conductivity remains constant. After an actively initiated thermal regeneration, the new sorption phase starts. The actual NOx concentration is given by the timely derivative of the sensor signal. In further experiments, the conductometric NOx dosimeter was compared with commercially available NO2 sensors, following different principles. With the conductometric NOx dosimeter, the main drawbacks of conventional gas sensors can be avoided.
