Abstract
Janus fibers were created by applying two different recombinant spider silk constructs that were electrospun in a side-by-side arrangement. Subsequent gold coupling via thiol-ene click chemistry allowed for highly selective deposition of a conductive gold layer only on the cysteine-modified silk protein side. The study demonstrates the high potential of tailored silk design to generate multi-functional nanomaterials for various applications.
