Abstract in another language

Automotive exhaust gas aftertreatment systems need to be monitored during operation (on-board diagnosis, OBD). The conversion of hydrocarbons and the generation of NO2 are the main functions of a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC). To monitor the catalysts functionality, usually gas sensors are installed at least downstream of the catalysts. The here-presented work describes very first steps of a novel alternative concept. It compares the gas atmospheres up- and downstream of the catalyst directly and in operando within one single device rather than measuring two separate gas concentrations at different locations. In the final setup, a sensor device would consist of a small pipe (as it is in-use in differential pressure sensors of today’s diesel particulate filters) and a setup that allows comparing both atmospheres directly. However, to prove this concept at an initial stage, a more complex laboratory setup was selected.
